Cavaliers Lock Up Young Star

Darius Garland Signs Rookie Extension

Cavaliers Lock Up Young Star

Five-Year, $193 Million Deal Keeps Garland in Cleveland

The Cleveland Cavaliers have secured the future of their young star, Darius Garland, with a five-year, $193 million maximum rookie extension. The deal, which was first reported by ESPN, is the largest ever for a No. 5 overall pick and keeps the All-Star guard in Cleveland through the 2027-28 season.

Garland, who was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, has emerged as one of the most promising young players in the league. He averaged 21.7 points and 8.6 assists per game last season, leading the Cavaliers to the play-in tournament. Garland was also named an All-Star for the first time in his career.

The Cavaliers have been rebuilding around Garland and fellow young stars Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. The team has shown significant improvement in recent years and is expected to compete for a playoff spot this season.

With Garland now locked up for the long term, the Cavaliers can focus on building a contender around their young core. The future is bright in Cleveland, and Garland is a big part of the reason why.
